Cameroon – Anglophone Crisis: The date of the GCE examinations to be delayed by two weeks

Following a decision by the Minister of Secondary Education (MINESEC) made public on 30 March 2017, the examinations of the General Certificate of Education initially scheduled to start at the end of May will only begin in June 2017 due to many reasons.

It is probably June 07, 2017 that will begin the exams for the GCE Board counting for the school year 2016-2017. But before the announcement made by Ernest NGALLE BIBEHE MASSENA, these exams were supposed to be started on May 22, 2017 If the Minister indicates that the dates of the official examinations for the 2017 session under the Cameroon Baccalaureate Office and the examination and competition examination directorate remain unchanged, The deadline for registration in all competitions of the session is 15 April 2017. New postponement therefore for the deadline for submission of files of the General Certificate of Education whose last adjournment expired on the 20th Last March.

The reasons for these changes were also mentioned by the Minister. During the two weeks of the usual Easter holidays, the students who will take the CGE exams in the north-west and south-western regions will undergo intensive training sessions scheduled for Monday, April 03, 2017. These phases, Trainings under the supervision of the regional educational inspectors, will take place in the respective schools of the candidates and will lead to a blank examination at the end of which the best pupils will be awarded bonuses.

In taking this decision, the Minister of Secondary Education intends to allow students from the regions of the North-West South-West, whose path has been interrupted by the crisis in the English-speaking regions of fairly catching up. and also to help those parents and students who are still slowing down because of doubt, given that in conjunction with these refresher courses, candidates will still be able to submit their registrations. The minister also demanded between the lines of his announcement that all teachers make themselves available throughout the period that the process will last.
