Cameroon – Energy: Ten Cameroonian engineers in training in China, as a prelude to the commissioning in September of the Memvele dam

Ten Cameroonian engineers, specializing in civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, are currently staying in China for an accelerated training period that will last 12 months, reveals the Government daily.

In the field of maintenance of hydroelectric infrastructure equipment, they are going to gain ground, as a prelude to the commissioning in September 2017 of the Memvele dam, built in the region of South Cameroon.

The Memvele dam, built by the Chinese firm Sinohydro, will generate 200 MW which will be injected into the South interconnected network, thus contributing to the reduction of Cameroon’s energy deficit.

An investment of CFAF 420 billion, the Memvele dam, whose evacuation works are under construction, is financed mainly by a loan from Eximbank China, for about CFAF 243 billion, Compared with 112 billion CFA francs for the AfDB and 65 billion CFA francs for the State of Cameroon.
