Cameroon – Transport: 282 million FCFA to compensate populations of Mefou and Afamba impacted by the project of the Yaounde-Nsimalen motorway

On Wednesday, April 13, 2017, the compensation ceremony was held for the 127 residents of the rural section of the Yaounde-Nsimalen Highway in the Mefou Afamba division. This, following the release of another 100 meters on the right of way of this infrastructure.

The total amount allocated to this operation pursuant to a decree of the Prime Minister, Philemon Yang, dated December 10, 2015, is CFAF 282.775 million.

At the end of the day, only 261 million FCFA were distributed, as two deaths, three disputed cases and twenty absences were recorded. For this short section of the countryside (Ahala- Carrefou Meyo – Carrefour Nsimalen), 10.8 km long, the contract was awarded to the Chinese company, China Communications Construction Company, on 23 December 2013.

Concerning the urban section, the construction work has been entrusted to Synohydro Corp by the OTC procedure in the “Studies/realization” mode and following the subdivision below: lot 1: Ahala (end of Nsimalen motorway) – Avenue Joseph Onambélé Mbazoa (Ahala-Nsam-Carrefour trois statue Olézoa) with a length of 5.8 km. Lot 2: Carrefour trois statue – Oil Lybia Olézoa- Mess des officiers -Poste Central, 9 Km, will be built by China Road and Bridge Corp. (Crbc). Lot 3 runs from Warda-Nouvelle route Bastos-Sous-préfecture Tsinga 2.1 Km. It will be built by Arab Contractors Cameroon.

The total cost of the Yaoundé-Nsimalen motorway project is CFAF 189.8 billion. Work began on May 2, 2014 for a period of 36 months and is due to be completed in May 2017.
