Ministers who have finished speaking in front of the members of the Finance and Budget Committee, are received in the Ngoa-Ekelle Chamber for general discussions on various bills and other major topics of current events.
This was the case yesterday, Monday 4 December 2017. MPs gathered in the Chamber to discuss and adopt the draft law on the ratification of the Air Transport Agreement between Cameroon and Saudi Arabia and the draft on the ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty.
Among the members of the government who exchanged yesterday in plenary session with the MPs, there is Joseph Beti Assomo, minister delegate to the presidency in charge of the defense. On this occasion, he informed the elected representatives of the people that on very high instruction of the Head of State, Chief of the Armies, it will soon be deployed a special security device in the English-speaking regions where for a month, military and police are assassinated by terrorists, alleged members of organizations claiming independence from the western part of Cameroon.
“You will soon see with your eyes how a special device is being set up in the South West and Northwest Regions to put the terrorists out of harm’s way. We must take action to preserve the lives and the integrity of the territory of Cameroon. There is talk of setting up facilities there that meet the terrorist threat. All components of the defense and security forces are involved“. Said Joseph Beti Assomo.
This plenary session of several hours, is the first that is held in serenity, in the absence of the SDF MPs, the main political party of the opposition, which disrupted the previous public meetings to demand the opening in parliament, an inclusive debate on the Anglophone crisis.
