Following a fire that consumed tons of raw materials and finished products from the Société camerounaise de fermentation (Fermencam) on 1 January 2018, a meeting was held behind closed doors on 5 January between government members and company officials.
At the end of this meeting, an announcement was made by the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (Minmidt), Ernest Gbwaboubou: the 850 jobs of the company will be saved. In addition, Fermencam will benefit from facilitation to import raw materials and equipment to revive its activities, under the 2013 law setting incentives for private investment.
The general management of the company, for its part, indicated that the estimate of the losses of Fermencam is being evaluated.
Pierre Tchinda, Executive Director, expressed his gratitude to the Government for its support in this event as well as in the activities of the company. Especially in the context of the migration of whiskey packaging in sachet to bottled packaging.
