Telecom sector in Cameroon created 6,245 direct jobs in 2016

The number of direct jobs reported by operators in the telecom sector in Cameroon peaked at 6,245 in 2016, down slightly by 0.86%, according to a report by the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (TRA).

The regulator, which estimates that 250 000 active jobs during the period under review, however, points out that the decrease observed in the number of direct jobs is the first in a period of 3 years, after increases 1.5%, 33.9% and 5% respectively in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

According to the TRA, these increases in the number of jobs recorded between 2013 and 2015 were mainly due to the arrival on the telecom market of Nexttel, the country’s third largest mobile operator.
