Five people were killed in a traffic accident that occurred Sunday afternoon in the Southwest region of Cameroon, on the Ombe bridge, between the cities of Buea and Limbe.
According to information gathered on site, among the dead are the three brothers of Mayor Patrick Ekema, of Buea. The five people, occupants of a Mercedes, were returning from a celebration of the birthday of the driver of the vehicle.
The car suddenly lose control of its craft and tumbled down the ravine nearly 15 meters deep, breaking the guard rails installed for the protection of users. No one came out alive from this accident.
A drama that adds to the legal troubles of Mayor Patrick Ekema. The latter is accused of having entered the University of Buea, where he obtained a Bachelor and a Master, after presenting a fake GCE “A” Level result. The board of directors of the University of Buea met Thursday and would have decided to reject his diplomas.
Meanwhile, the proceedings opened by the Regional Chair of the Human Rights Commission, Christopher Tambe Tiku, are continuing. The latter claims to have conducted an investigation following allegations that the local elected official would have entered the university by having passed a single subject at the “GCE Advanced level”. An investigation at the end of which, he would have confirmed the rumors.
It is from now on the judicial police’s job which took over the file. Patrick Ekema, who is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Buea, has distinguished himself, since his election, by the struggle he has often fought against false degrees.
